For many people, pets are a part of the family. For some people, pets are their only family.
Since January 2004, Shakespeare Animal Fund (SAF) has given thousands of dollars to save pets belonging to veterans, the elderly, disabled, and low income individuals.
SAF was founded after a beloved cocker spaniel named Shakespeare became ill and there was nothing the vet could do to save his life. In loving memory of Shakespeare The Shakespeare Animal Fund was founded to provide assistance to individuals who might not be able to afford the costs of an animal’s unexpected illness or injury. Some of the Shakespeare Animal Fund recipients include:
Bonnie Blue Kirk - a cat who recently received treatment for seizures. Because Shakespeare Animal Fund provided assistance for vet bills, She is once again a happy and active cat.
Jackson - a kind hearted family dog who was struck by a car. He suffered nerve damage and a broken ilium. The donation from Shakespeare Animal Fund to Jackson’s family provided him the care he needed and put him on the road to recovery.
Bear – a fun loving dog who was in need of serious attention, but his family could not afford to take him to the vet. After a donation to Bear’s family, he was taken to the vet and received medication. Bear became a playful puppy once again. His family was grateful and relieved to have him back!
