Shanti Children's Foundation

For over twenty-five years Shanti has been making dreams come true. We are a very small, grassroots non-profit that provides educational sponsorships to needy children in Nepal who would not otherwise be able to go to school. Most of our sponsored children are first generation literate and education is giving them tools that they desperately need to become self sufficient adults and to meet the challenges of a culture in the throes of great change.

Most are from remote rural areas of Nepal where there are no schools. So, not only do we provide school fees but also room and board, books and uniform, clothes, shoes, bedding, and needed medical attention. We are also making sure they are secure, well fed, healthy and safe...safe from human trafficking which is all too common in the poorest rural areas.

Shanti founder Pam Whitworth fell in love with Nepal and it's people during her first trip in 1995. Since then she has been visiting yearly, growing this hands-on organization from one child to more than 90 today. One child wanting to go to school was all it took to start. That simple desire to learn has sparked the kindness of people on the other side of the world and thanks to their generosity, children are fulfilling their dreams of education and taking their first steps out of the cycle of poverty. Today we are sending those students on to higher education, something we could hardly dream of at the beginning. 

The hallmark of Shanti is a warm personal connection between sponsors and their sponsored child. We feel special that we can maintain a close, knowledgable oversight and an intimate connection not possible in big non-profits. Shanti Children's Foundation is making a difference, and that difference has a face: ninety faces, in fact...children and young adults with hopes and dreams, a personal history and very real day-to-day needs.
