Shelby County Foster Parents Association

The Shelby County Foster Parents Association’s (SCFPA) mission is to strengthen foster families in Shelby and surrounding counties through locally focused advocacy, training, education, publications, and networking among foster parents, Shelby County Department of Human Resources and other associated entities.  Everything we do serves the best interest of children in the foster care system, from fulfillment of their spiritual, physical, emotional and social needs by supporting and equipping the foster parents that care for them daily.

SCFPA serves the foster care community in Shelby County through The Hangar, Special Projects, Monthly Training and direct sponsorships.  The Hangar is SCFPA’s resource and community center that houses new to care essentials, clothing closest, school gear, meal freezer, child moving supplies, and more. Our monthly meetings provide dinner, child care, fellowship and training that is vital to our foster parent’s success.  For Back to School we take the kids shopping at a local shoe store to pick out their brand new shoes and provide Backpacks and personalized water bottles as well as coordinate school supply sponsors.  For Christmas, we provide Monogrammed Christmas Stockings and coordinate stocking stuffer sponsors and full wish list sponsors.  We coordinate sponsorships for Birthdays, teen needs and individual needs as they arise.

The funding raised will enable SCFPA to continue offering the services and projects shared above as well as make improvements and expand to better meet needs. This funding will also allow SCFPA opportunity to expand our services to include other areas of need that we are not currently able to meet due to space and funding limitations. Some areas of need are extra curricular and sports funding, additional monthly training in therapeutic parenting, separated sibling visitation, respite opportunities, volunteer training, larger space for The Hangar and more.
