Shelby Diaper Pantry

The Shelby Diaper Pantry, a non-profit 501-C3, is a ministry of the First Presbyterian Church, and First United Church of Christ in Shelby, Ohio. Our goal is to provide diapers and wipes to every family in need in the greater Shelby area. Providing these essential items leaves families a little more money to spend toward other necessities.

This important work started in 2022 when a Shelby resident began collecting diapers and wipes to distribute to the community. It wasn’t long before her home was overwhelmed with diapers and a bigger space was needed. Church members Bill and Sue Fairchild, along with  Pastor James Robinson, worked together  to renovate the third floor of First Presbyterian Church which is now the permanent home of our diaper pantry.  When the originator of  the program was no longer able to continue, a group of volunteers stepped forward and took over. We went from distributing 600-1000 diapers every month to over 2500 each month. We are serving over 70 babies and 40-50 families each month. For each child in diapers, we give 40 diapers,  a package of wipes, as well as diaper rash cream if needed.   We are open for distribution on the 4th Monday of every month from 6:30-7:30pm. Members of the Diaper Pantry Board of Directors are James Robinson, Demrie Alonzo, Kelsie Brooks, Monica Myers, Sue Fairchild, Stephanie Morris, and Vicky Poffenbaugh.

The two congregations have been so generous in helping get this ministry started. Each month members of the churches purchase and donate diapers and wipes to our pantry. We have also received donations from local organizations like the Shelby United Lions Club and the Shelby Hospital Nursing Congress. We’ve had successful Diaper Drives at the YMCA and the Marvin Memorial Library of Shelby. It took some time, but now that we have  501(c)3 status, we are reaching out for financial donations to help meet the growing needs of our clients.
