Shelby Emergency Assistance Inc

Shelby Emergency Assistance (SEA) serves approximately 3,000 Shelby County residents yearly.  These families have experienced some type of recent crisis or emergency situation including serious illness, job loss, or domestic violence.  The crisis has caused a loss of income and prevents them from being able to meet their basic needs.  These households may be faced with being unable to put food on their tables, having their electricity disconnected, being unable to obtain needed medication, or being evicted from their homes.  SEA is able to provide temporary assistance to stabilize the situation until the family is able to get back on their feet.  In addition to providing financial assistance, SEA provides educational services, budgeting education, and job search assistance.  These services are designed to help individuals gain additional skills which will help them reach greater self-sufficiency.   SEA also works with pregnant and parenting teens in Shelby County Schools to assist teen mothers in having healthy babies, avoiding high risk behaviors, and completing their high school education.  All of the services of SEA are designed to help people move from crisis to self-sufficiency.
