WHO WE ARE:

The Shelby Community and Senior Center is an integral part of the Shelby Community and surrounding area.  Our main focus lies with the senior citizen population in our area.  We strive to provide a fun, engaging place for our seniors to come socialize, exercise, and continue being active well into this amazing part of life called "retirement".

THE IMPACT:

As with many organizations, we go to great strides to keep our facility available for these folks, many of whom this is their main outlet and location for meeting up with friends and getting in their daily exercises.  Several of our folks plan their entire schedule around OUR offered activities and often-times is the highlight to their week.

Our fitness instructors are certified through Silver Sneakers and we offer cardio and core strengthing 5 day/week at 10 a.m. each day. Chair Yoga is a favorit for many of our seniors.

We have also joined many health plans as a participating fitness center, those being Silver and Fit, Silver Sneakers, Renew Active, American Specialty Health, and more.  We have decided to increase our annual membership fee slightly this year, from $65 to $70. It is our first increase in over 5 years. We want this to be a place that is CONSTANT, SAFE, WELCOMING, and INCLUSIVE.  Our philosophy has always been to make the Senior Center an extention of home.  We love to do life together inside as well as outside the walls of the Center.

With many of these things being huge positives, we have seen a big jump in our operating expenses, with regard to building improvements and repairs for the safety of our seniors, some much needed computer updates on the horizon, and security camera enhancements and internet accessability throughout the building.

In the past, the spring and summer months have been our greatest way to bring in funding. We rent the facility out to folks from the community and surrounding area, business organizations and community partners for events like weddings, baby showers, graduation parties, funeral dinners, board meetings, community awareness events, United Fund of Shelby mailings, etc.  We are seeing more interest in the Senior Center as a local Go-To venue for many community events. We are very excited about sharing our space with so many organizations.

Some of the trips we have taken this year include:

*Put-In-Bay/Miller's Ferry Trip

Good Time III Luncheon and River Boat Cruise

Upcoming Trips still hoping to be planned yet this winter:

We thank you for your time and prayerful consideration.  We hope you and yours have a blessed holiday season with family and friends moving into 2025!
