What is Sheltering Arms?

Sheltering Arms is Georgia’s longest-established, and one of the largest, nonprofit providers of early childhood education. Since 1888, we have provided children their best possible start in a safe, nurturing environment where they can learn and grow. We are also committed to helping their families make life more secure now and for generations to come.

Today, Sheltering Arms has 13 metro Atlanta centers in Cobb, DeKalb, Douglas, Fulton and Gwinnett counties, and offers more than 3,000 young children each year high-quality early childhood education and comprehensive family services designed to transform communities and break the cycle of generational poverty.

Our Mission

Sheltering Arms closes opportunity gaps stemming from systemic racism by transforming the lives of children and their families through high-quality, equitable early childhood education and leadership in the field.

Our Vision

Sheltering Arms sees thriving communities where all families hold the power to create opportunity for themselves and their children.

Our Strategic Plan

Sheltering Arms created and adopted new strategic initiatives in 2021 to guide the organization for the next five years. With the help of community partners, board members, parents, alumni and staff at all levels, we have defined a plan to guide our work focusing on the following areas Accelerating Family Impact; Sheltering Arms Role in the Field; Financial Resiliency and Employee Well-being and Engagement.
