The Shenandoah Valley Spay/Neuter Clinic (SVSNC) is an acknowledged leader in animal welfare and the effort to end the needless euthanasia of cats and dogs. The SVSNC is Virginia’s leading high volume spay/neuter clinic with over 12,500 surgeries performed each year.
The SVSNC is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization that offers high quality, high volume spay/neuter services within a 100 mile radius of Harrisonburg, Virginia. As a non-profit clinic, our responsibility is to improve the well-being of the cats and dogs in our community.
In addition to providing affordable spay/neuter surgeries, the SVSNC provides a free transportation service to and from the region’s animal shelters, a pet food pantry as well as wellness appointments for cats and dogs that have already been spayed or neutered. By removing potential barriers such as cost and transportation, the SVSNC is able to reach the animals most in need.
Since opening in January of 2005, the SVSNC has performed over 100,000 surgeries. The SVSNC prides itself on its commitment to a high standard of care and is continually seeking ways to enhance the services provided.
The SVSNC is dedicated to its mission of ending the euthanasia of healthy, treatable cats and dogs. The SVSNC is committed to humanely performing surgical sterilizations on our patients while minimizing the risk of anesthetic and surgical complications. This mission will be achieved through offering affordable services to our clients and public awareness initiatives.
The SVSNC partners with over 30 rescue organizations throughout Virginia and West Virginia. In the past six years, regional animal shelters have seen between a 15%-40% decrease in their intake rate. Our progressive spay/neuter campaign is directly impacting local shelters and thus fewer animals are being put down each year.
In June 2013, one of our partner shelters received a dog named Dagwood. He had been found on the side of the road with his open wounds infested with maggots. Dagwood was in poor health- clearly suffering and in pain. With proper veterinary care, a month later Dagwood’s heath had improved and he was scheduled for a routine neuter and heartworm testing. Unfortunately, he tested positive for heartworms. Because the shelter was at capacity and that his veterinary care had already cost over $500, the shelter was not in a position to provide heartworm treatment. The decision was made to put down sweet little Dagwood. Upon learning this news, a staff member at SVSNC immediately contacted a local rescue organization and found him a foster parent. Dagwood, affectionately called “Daggy” completed his heartworm treatment at SVSNC and found a loving forever home.
Without public donations and our partnerships, Dagwood would have been euthanized and become another statistic like the thousands of animals needlessly put down in our community each year.
In the past 3 years the clinic has underwritten over $250,000 in reduced and free services to clients in need of financial assistance. Assisting low income clients is critical to our mission. In recent months the SVSNC has received many requests for financial assistance and without a strong subsidy program a lot of these requests would be unfulfilled. Your donation allows the SVSNC to provide affordable veterinary care to the animals most in need.
The SVSNC is dedicated to finding the most proactive and successful programs. SVSNC continually seeks new collaborations and technologies. Our efforts have resulted in over 100,000 surgeries, over 30 partnerships with rescue organizations and a reduction of animals entering local shelters.
In order to further our mission, the SVSNC embarked on a new project to target animals most at risk from entering the shelter. In 2012 the SVSNC began a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) project in collaboration with James Madison University and two local animal shelters. The SVSNC has partnered with rescue organizations, animal control officers and a local shelter in order to conduct such an operation.
Your contribution to the SVSNC will save animal lives!
