ShesCHERIshed is a non-profit ministry dedicated to eradicating domestic violence from the lives of innocent women and children in our communities. ShesCHERIshed is a place of refuge and a safe haven for women to rest, heal, and grow from domestic violence. We exist to encourage women to establish spiritual, mental, and physical strength. Our goal is for women to be transformed and become fully devoted followers of Christ; knowing they are set free from relational abuse.
ShesCHERIshed is seeking to build a local domestic violence shelter in Douglas County, which will provide hope, healing and restoration for women. Our shelter will be built in honor of my Mom, CHERI, who passed away in late 2015, in a car accident on I-25. Sadly, my Mom was a lifetime victim of domestic violence until she became a survivor of abuse, 10 years before her passing.
Also, because of my own first hand knowledge (for 6 years) of horrible physical abuse and the mental entrapment of domestic violence, I wish to help others escape this cycle of abuse. Both abusive men to my Mother and I were charged with attempted murder and went to & one still in prison for 44 years.
Based on my experience with domestic abuse, our vision is twofold:
1) To help others escape this cycle of domestic violence
2) To break the role modeling of abuse between parents and their children.
What I’m personally doing to break the cycle of domestic abuse…
- At the ripe old age of 22, I adopted my 4-year old brother and raised him. He’s 22 now. The only thing he saw as a child was domestic abuse at home. This is one success story of breaking the cycle.
- In July 2018, I assumed custody for my then 3 year old niece, to protect her from DV. I was an empty nester for a week before we started over with another kiddo.
- We sold our home in Parker to purchase 23 acres in Douglas County because every single DV shelter in Colorado is full. There is rarely ever an open bed.
- One gal spent this winter in a camper with no utilities or water.
- We’ve also taken women and children into our home for the last two years.
- I recently partnered on purchasing a condo, and we now have two women who’ve suffered from domestic violence healingin this home.
Our vision has short-term and long-term plans:
Our short-term Ask is:
Expense dollars for today. Financial help is crucial throughout this process. $10,000 to support our immediate needs and ongoing monthly supporters for the needs of our ShesCHERIshed clients. Our short-term plan is to assist families enduring domestic violence, to get out of their situation.
Today, we’re ‘boots-on-the-ground’, and we provide help with the road to recovery by providing:
ï Food
ï Shelter
ï Diapers
ï Job skills
ï Resumes
ï Furnishings
ï Victims Advocacy
ï Protection Orders
ï Start over Housing
ï Court Appearances
ï Therapy/counseling
ï Training on Domestic Abuse at the Denver Women’s Correctional Facility
Our long-term Ask is:
Capital dollars for tomorrow. We’re seeking corporate and individual sponsors & donors to help build a local retreat facility on the 23 acres of land that we purchased, or even another parcel of land, buildings or assets in Douglas county. The first ShesCHERIshed house will provide hope, healing, and restoration. A safe haven for women and children to rest, heal and grow from domestic abuse. If you’re able to assist throughout the design, engineering or building of the facility, we invite you to contact us to learn more. Our Journey starts with a single step. Be the change you want to see in the world. Embrace the Passion of ShesCHERIshed! Thank You!
