The Short Bowel Syndrome Foundation is a 501c3 public charity that was founded on December 3, 2010 in Lincoln, NE. What was to be a local/state charity, soon became a nationwide support service to those living with Short Bowel Syndrome, an invisible illness in which patients are often reliant and dependent on entral and parenteral nutrition to live and get nourishment.

Unlike Cancer, Hearts, and other big name organizations who raise money for their causes, we raise money for our patients. Our patients spend a good deal of their finances on medical travel, co-payments, doctors visits and procedures, and hospital admissions. Therefore they can use our help to supplement their expense so they do not have to take on more work. SBS families typically work 2 jobs (mostly the male), meaning that there is hardly any respite time for the caregivers. Our money is used in the form of scholarships given out to patients who apply.

SBS is a very real illness, it may not be as well known as our major chronic illnesses that we all know of, but this is a condition these patients are often born with and will often die with it, if not from it. There is no cure for SBS. The Foundation could use your help in aiding in several families this year in need of financial support due to medical necessity.
