Shoulder to Shoulder-Guachipilincito

In one of the poorest, most isolated, and most underserved areas of Honduras, we have partnered with the local communities to serve the health, education, economic, development, and social needs of the population.  Shoulder to Shoulder’s US affiliates include universities and organizations committed to a model of empowerment and sustainability.  US volunteers include physicians, dentists, nurses, lawyers, engineers, social workers, business executives, students, and more.  By way of agreement with the Honduran government, Shoulder to Shoulder provides primary health care to over 35,000 persons living in the geographical region of southern Intibucá, near the border with El Salvador.  Service is provided even in the remotest areas where roads, electricity, potable and running water, and infrastructure is still unavailable.  

Other services include:

 

• dentistry
• woman’s health
• a water purification program for families and communities
• other targeted services as needs arise

 

Shoulder to Shoulder is committed to quality education as the driving force in development and the eradication of poverty.  We both challenge and assist the Honduran government to provide quality, accessible education. 

 

• Yo Puedo (I Can) is a girls’ empowerment program that successfully offers viable alternatives to pregnancy. 
• Our Scholarship Program grants older children of academic promise the opportunity to complete High School and even go onto higher education. 
• The Good Shepherd Bilingual School offers a quality education while maintaining itself as a public, accessible school.  Benefactors are invited to be part of a child’s education by becoming a sponsor.
