The Shreveport Metropolitan Concert Band was first established in 1984 by a group of C.E. Byrd High School alumni, and has become the oldest, continuously operating community band in Shreveport and Bossier City today. We have performed over 300 concerts over the years in several cities in Louisiana and Texas including The Red River Revel, the Veterans Day ceremony in Shreveport following the annual parade, the 4th of July concert and celebration in Jefferson Texas, and the retiree luncheons at Barksdale AFB honoring war veterans. The band has grown from the original 30 members to over 75 musicians. No longer supported by Louisiana State University in Shreveport, the band has found a new home for rehearsals and concerts with Grace Community United Methodist Church. We are ever so grateful to Grace Community church but with this move, we have incurred some additional expenses. Among our members are active and retired band directors, businessmen, medical professionals, students, retired and active military members, community volunteers, professional musicians, retirees who want to play again and people from many backgrounds. There is no where better to get back into music in a band environment and challenge that brain than in this group. We are supported only by donations, and our directors, Joseph LeBlanc and Ted Beagley, both music professionals and educators are the only paid members.
