A Region at Risk
The Sierra is incredibly rich in natural resources. This region provides 60% of the state’s developed water supply, stores half of the state’s carbon, makes up 25% of the state’s land mass, and is home to 60% of the state’s animal diversity.
Despite the incredible importance of the Sierra ecosystems, the “Range of Light” lacks the resources necessary to protect and restore the region’s natural resources. The Sierra is often overlooked by lawmakers and often misses out on resources that are directed to areas with higher population density.
