Simmons College of Kentucky

Supporting Simmons College of Kentucky means providing assistance for students seeking success through an education that nurtures and uplifts their dreams and goals!  Our HBCU - the only Historically Black College in Louisville - was founded in 1879 with the mission of “Educating students in the urban context with professional programs to create change agents in our society.” Almost 60% of our students are first generation students and 78% qualify for Pell grants.  The need for student scholarships, housing support and more is great! In addition to 14 educational degrees, including STEM, Simmons College has a new Teacher Education degree designed to add minority teachers to JCPS and throughout Kentucky, a new Second Chance Pell Program that educates incarcerated adults in three prisons in Kentucky and our first Master of Science in Medical Sciences.  We remain dedicated to racial justice and equity in our community through our Jesse Jackson Center for Racial Justice. We are creating an environment that educates some of the most needy in our community — one that attracts students and professors from across the country to help make Simmons College of Kentucky and the community of Louisville a stronger and more vital city that serves all.

Who We Are

Simmons College of Kentucky, founded in 1879, is the 107th Historically Black College & University (HBCU) in the country. We pride ourselves in educating students in the urban context to help them become productive citizens and change agents in their communities. Our educational degrees include Communication, Business (Entrepreneurship), General Studies, Sociology, Music, Religious Studies and more.
