Inspired by the life of Jesus and by our founder Catherine McAuley, the Sisters of Mercy envision a just world for people who are poor, sick, and uneducated.

When the Sisters of Mercy arrived in San Francisco in 1854, the city was in the midst of a cholera epidemic. Eager to serve, these sisters immediately went to work tending to the ill. In addition to nursing, sisters also began to teach Catholic youth in the spirit of Mercy. Today, we remain active in the traditional ministries of education and health care, and our lasting impact can be seen in the many schools and hospitals we founded.

Although our main campuses are in Burlingame and Auburn, Sisters of Mercy serve throughout the state of California and beyond. Acknowledging both the physical and religious needs of God’s people, we work in a myriad of ministries, including aiding the homeless, spreading awareness of human trafficking, and leading those seeking spiritual nourishment. We are committed to addressing the critical concerns of Women and Children, Nonviolence, Racism, Immigration, and Sustainability of the Earth.

Your gift during Silicon Valley Gives will support the lives and ministries of the Sisters of Mercy in your community . Thanks to our generous benefactors, we will continue to make a difference in the lives of others.
