Slow Food St Louis

A nonprofit organization

Slow Food St Louis seeks to rekindle people's interest in the food we eat, where it comes from, and how our food choices affect the rest of the world. Our programs focus on building a better food system by educating consumers and promoting sustainable farming.
Slow Food St. Louis is the local chapter of Slow Food, an international, member-supported organization founded in 1989 to counteract fast food and fast life, and the disappearance of local food traditions. A major portion of our budget is devoted to micro-grant funding to area small farms, encouraging plant and animal biodiversity. Other programs include the Garlic Crop Sourcing Project, which encourages individuals and farmers throughout our region to grow diverse varieties of garlic; eater education outreach through speaker series, tastings, discussions and classes. We organize a variety of programs/events supporting local, sustainable farming and eating through the use of locally produced products, such as our VIP Cooking Classes and our Slow Food U Program.
We aim to be a St. Louis resource providing information and education for local consumers as well as serving as a funding resource for local, sustainable farmers and food enterprises, while acting as a catalyst for the growth of a St. Louis food culture based on the enjoyment of eating locally produced, healthy and delicious foods.
