The Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage promotes understanding, respect, and constructive engagement among people of diverse world cultures. Joining quality scholarship with strong community partnerships, the Center:

  • Produces the Smithsonian Folklife Festival and Smithsonian Folkways Recordings, as well as documentary films/videos, symposia, workshops, conferences, and major national cultural events
  • Maintains, strengthens, and makes accessible the Ralph Rinzler Folklife Archives and Collections
  • Generates new Research and Education
  • Promotes Cultural Heritage Policy for the benefit of communities around the globe.
