In Gadsden during the early 1950's recognition occurred regarding the lack of educational facilities available to children with special needs.  Thus, in 1956 a group met to dicuss this fact and ways to alleviate the lack thereof.  The school would need to facilitate a learning environment while also continuing the loving and nurturing process from the homes of the students.  Out of these original meetings, Snellgrove Civitan Center was born.  The school officially opened on September 2, 1956.  Today, Snellgrove remains a beacon of hope for many families.  It would be an unsurmountable task to know the number of lives enriched by the loving and nurturing atmosphere that abounds in the facility.  Our staff keeps the day full of opportunities for everyone.  The curriculum consists of basic reading, math, science, spelling, sentence structure and writing.  The educational process works hand-in-hand with the "extra-curricular" opportunities so everyone remains entertained and educated.  Some of our extra-curricular activities include bowling, field trips, swimming and various other exercise programs.  If you were to remember one thing about Snellgrove and her students, it should be that the school provides an environment of love to further the educational process and allow the students to reach their full potential.  We encourage everyone to come spend the day with us at Snellgrove and see the treasure that abounds here.
