So CA Tri-Counties Branch of the International Dyslexia Association

A nonprofit organization

HELP US HELP LITERACY - Dyslexia affects 1 in 5!  That's a lot of dyslexic people out there.

So many students struggle with reading, spelling, and writing.  By helping their teachers and parents, we are also helping these many students.  Won’t you please join us?

Since 1984, The Tri-Counties Branch of the International Dyslexia Association proudly supports several endeavors, all designed to increase the literacy levels of children and adults. We provide many free support groups, workshops, webinars, and newsletters. Our website contains a great deal of information that you may download for free at any time. Each year, we hold an Annual Spring Conference where we invite renowned researchers, educators, and speakers who present the latest information and research on dyslexia, learning differences, instructional strategies, and best practices for teachers, administrators, parents, and adults with dyslexia or learning differences.

  • Dyslexia IS NOT seeing letters backwards.
  • Dyslexia IS NOT rare.
  • Dyslexia IS NOT a developmental delay.
  • You DO NOT outgrow dyslexia but you DO learn to accommodate for it.
  • Children with dyslexia ARE NOT lazy, slow or stupid.

One in FIVE children in the United States struggle with dyslexia or other language based learning differences...   ONE IN FIVE

These children are more likely destined to academic failure unless they are recognized early and treated skillfully.

ONE IN FIVE!

Dyslexia is a specific learning disability that is neurological in origin characterized by difficulties with accurate and/or fluent word recognition and by poor spelling and decoding abilities.

Dyslexia occurs in people of all backgrounds and intellectual levels. People who are very bright can be dyslexic. They are often capable or even gifted in areas that do not require strong language skills, such as art, computer science, design, drama, electronics, math, mechanics, music, physics, sales, and sports.

Picture any 5 children you know.  One of them will likely struggle with dyslexia or another language based learning difference.

OUR BRANCH

Our branch is one of 44 International Dyslexia Association branches throughout the USA and Canada. Plus we have 21 Global Partners in 19 countries. We are proud to be connected with The IDA because it is the preeminent source of information for

  • individuals with dyslexia,
  • the professionals that serve them, and
  • the parents of the one in five children struggling with dyslexia.

IDA's and Tri-Counties’ goal is to ease the frustration and worry of our parents, train the teachers who teach our students, and remove educational barriers so that all struggling readers can learn.

Our mission states "The So CA Tri-Counties Branch of the IDA endeavors to bring researchers and relevant literacy topics to the public and to share information regarding literacy, including dyslexia, via media, personal contact, and events focused on literacy."

TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE!

There are so many students struggling --- and they don't need to be.  They need to celebrate their many gifts and obtain the appropriate help to be more successful.

Your tax deductible donation will enable us to be able to provide the services, information, teacher training, advocacy, community and support for the one in five we know and the one in five you know.

We’d love to receive YOUR donation.......
