The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals of Northern Virginia (SPCA of Northern VA) promotes the humane treatment of animals and improves the relationships between families and their animal companions. The SPCA of Northern VA is a volunteer organization serving the DC metro area providing services and activities as follows:

  1. Humane Hot-line – Phone-in message service staffed 7 days a week to respond to reports of injured, abandoned, and stray animals within the DC metropolitan area. Volunteers provide individualized advice and training assistance to pet owners to address behavioral issues which includes determining the appropriate course of action,  directing to available resources and advice on animal welfare;
  2. SPAY Inc. – Sponsor and coordinate access to low cost or no cost spay/neuter services for families with companion animals within the DC metropolitan area;
  3. Adoption of Companion Animals – Programs to unite rescued dogs and cats with qualified permanent homes, assisting individuals and families with appropriate adoption decisions;
  4. Support Response to Victims of Natural Disasters – Rescuing victims of natural disasters and re-uniting families with their companion animals or finding appropriate homes for those abandoned, such as the dogs left homeless due to Hurricane Katrina.
