To be a national and globally recognized organization that provides direct pathways for BIPOC communities to enter into the Sol Era.
Our Guiding Principles
In an effort to achieve Sol Nation’s mission/vision, we:
Believe communities should own their climate justice solutions
Create opportunities to establish intergenerational strategies to impact local social and environmental issues
Prioritize Black folks issues, identities, and cultural values
Provide BIPOC communities pathways to entry into the environmental justice movement
Identify & cultivate individual strength/skills to translate EJ threats into innovative solutions
Lead socio-economic impact to create sustainable & sovereign communities
Environmental Justice Is
This is our multi-year, multi-faceted educational campaign that demonstrates the intersection of the social and environmental justice movements and the solutions that can exist. We engage communities through storytelling, hands-on activities, actions, visual components, and the arts to communicate the issues and solutions in culturally relevant and compelling ways.
Sol Tech Academy
Sol Tech Academy introduces people of all ages from historically marginalized communities to technology through a climate justice lens. Specifically, we prioritize equipping young people with training, access to different coding languages, connecting technology's role in their future career choice, and experiential opportunities to survey the environmental quality of their communities. Participants are encouraged to own their own climate tech solutions relevant to what they want to see around them daily, in their communities, and in their future.
Green Gap Initiative
Sol Nation’s definition of Green Gap is the difference between Black, Indigenous, and People of Color communities’ desire to build and live in sustainable, regenerative communities and their access to the resources, power, education, and infrastructure to achieve those communities. Closing the green gap is the framework that we are using for increasing socio-economic impact.
