Solar United Neighbors

Solar United Neighbors is a national community of solar supporters dedicated to building a clean, equitable, people-centered energy system. Our MN chapter -- Solar United Neighbors of Minnesota -- is the voice for solar homeowners, community solar subscribers, and others who produce homegrown renewable energy. We're working toward a future where every Minnesotan who wants to go solar can do so, 100% of our power is generated from local renewable energy sources, and the energy system prioritizes the needs of local communities.

Our work has three main pillars: Projects, Engagement, and Policy. Our project work helps residents, farms, nonprofits, and small businesses go solar. We organize solar co-ops in partnership with local communities across the state, leveraging bulk purchasing power to help families access more affordable rooftop solar arrays. We also provide technical assistance to farms, nonprofits, and others with more specialized projects, and our community solar platform provides critical (and installer-neutral) customer education and transparency to this emerging market.

Our engagement work brings solar owners and supporters together to learn about solar and other clean energy technology. We run the annual MN Solar Congress, National Solar Tour, and other free educational events open to the public. Our SUN Patch program engages youth scouting groups in solar education, and our regular solar education workshops have educated thousands of residents about the ins and outs of going solar.

We are deeply engaged in policy and advocacy work to make renewable energy more accessible and affordable, to keep utilities and officials accountable, to maximize economic development and community benefits of the energy transition, and to keep Minnesota at the forefront of the clean energy landscape nationally.
