Our goal is to help our war heroes improve in their symptoms of PTSD, regain their independence, rebuild self-esteem and confidence, and improve their quality of life. We also want to impact the pet overpopulation problem by placing shelter or rescue dogs in good homes. Once a veteran's needs are evaluated, a search is conducted for a shelter or rescue dog that can train to provide for those needs. The veteran and dog team live and train together on their journey toward a new and healthy beginning. This life-changing program is provided at no cost to the veteran.

In Their Own Words
“My dog became my link to the world I was withdrawn from. I went from being hidden in the shadows to being able to walk in the mall with hundreds of people and people talking to me about my dog. I am more whole than I have been in years.”  Dennis and Bella

"Since introducing Lilly into my life, I no longer dwell on the thought of ending my life." Jim and Lilly

"Somewhere along the road, in my fight for America’s freedom I lost my own to the tragedies of life on the line in combat. Soldier’s Best Friend (SBF) has played a vital role along my road to recovery and coping with the demons I picked up in Iraq. SBF has helped me begin to gain some of my freedom back in my day to day life."  Joel and Kazu

Your donation will help fund veteran/dog teams like these graduates so they can begin training for their new life together. Training takes approximately 6-9 months to develop a service dog. The pair attend training classes two times a week. During training the dog lives with the veteran. There is NO cost to the veteran for placement, training and basic supplies.
