Somali Family Service of San Diego

Somali Family Service of San Diego (SFS), guided by its community champions, helps refugee and immigrant families become responsible, independent, and contributing members of the San Diego community through programs that promote health, education, economic success, and leadership development. SFS was established in 2000 as a non-profit, community-based social service organization. For more than 21 years, SFS has provided culturally and linguistically appropriate services that meet the needs of our community members. Currently, SFS provides services to community members speaking languages including Somali, Arabic, Amharic, Dari and Pashto (Afghan languages), Congolese, and Swahili. SFS staff are representative of the diverse communities we serve, and as many staff also arrived in the U.S. as refugees, we understand the challenges individuals face in adjusting to and succeeding in their new community. Furthermore, 100% of SFS’s Board of Directors are representative of refugee communities and bring with them a wealth of expertise.
