Somebody Cares is responding to dire needs across the United States and around the world.  From facilitating relief for earthquake victims in Nepal and India, to coordinating acts of peace and reconcilliation in cities like Baltimore, to investing in efforts to provide clean water in remote regions of Kenya, Somebody Cares partners with and supports local organizations and churches to build lasting change in their communities.

In addition to responsing to the horrific earthquake in the Nepal region, we currently have a remarkable opportunity to impact an entire tribal region in Kenya through a Community Water Project in the Dabel region.  Our partner, Call of Hope, has been working in the northern part of Kenya for about 20 years and has been given 150 acres by village elders for water, sanitation and agricultural projects.

This region is home to approximately 10,000 people of the Sakuye tribe who have been afflicted by severe drought and famine conditions for almost a decade. The communities in this region are in dire need of a consistent and safe water source for both human and livestock consumption, sanitation purposes, environmental management, and increased food security through agriculture.

For a consistent draw of water a well must be 300  meters (984 feet or 11,812 inches) deep in this desert region.  The remoteness of the villages and required depth to insure a good supply of potable water means the well will cost $80,000.  The well, however, will save countless human lives as well as livestock, and allow the Sakuye tribe to remain a cohesive group in Kenya.

Please help provide water to the Sakuye people of Northern Kenya!
