Somerset Youth Hockey Association

It is the goal of the Somerset Youth Hockey Association (SYHA) to foster and promote a winning spirit in each of its members that carries through to all aspects of life.

For over 25 years, SYHA has been providing local youth with the opportunity to play hockey. It all started with a simple flier placed in a local gas station, seeking out kids who wanted to learn and play the game.

The early days were spent playing and practicing on outdoor rinks, with dedicated parents watching, cheering and coaching their kids through every win, and every defeat. Successes were measured not only in goals, but in the growth of the program, and more importantly--the individual character development of each child.

The Association has seen many changes over the years, but our commitment to developing disciplined leaders, who operate with integrity on and off the ice, continues to be the focal point of our program.

What makes SYHA different?

â€¢We are an association-owned rink. Our volunteers, board members, and staff manage the day-to-day operations of a big rink in a small town.

•We offer Learn to Skate and Try Hockey for Free programs to get children started. These programs are free to families, made possible with the support of our donors.

•We offer free equipment check out for first time skaters and affordable leasing options at all levels.

•We are one of the most affordable hockey programs in the Twin Cities Area.

•We offer year-round programs, camps, and events to support the hockey fun at all times!

•We host Open Skate for our community as well as other fun community events (Santa at the Rink, Skate with the Spartans, and others).

This past season, the Somerset Youth Hockey Association had a youth league of over 150 families who participated in all levels: Learn to Skate, Try Hockey For Free, Mini Mites, Jr. Spartans, Squirts/U10, Peewees/U12, and Bantams/U14. The Somerset arena is also home to the Wisconsin Blaze, a AAA hockey program for multiple levels and ages of players.

Why support SYHA?

•Because we are association-owned, our income comes only from our fees, fundraising, programs, and ice rentals.

•The Learn to Skate and Try Hockey for Free programs are free to families, but they require funds to keep them going.

•We love that we can offer free/affordable equipment rental and we strive to provide our skaters with the best equipment available.

•We are committed to keeping hockey affordable, which requires more fundraising on the part of our families and the Association.
