The newly renovated portion of our expanded building opened its doors on Monday, March 2, 2020, and we are asking for your support in continuing to Renew the Somerset Public Library. Construction and remodeling of our former space into three community meeting rooms continues, even today. We need your support now more than ever!!! Please help continue our mission to serve the public. EVERY single person in our area can benefit from the library and the free and unique services we have to offer.
Our project has revitalized the downtown area of Somerset with a new look and room for potential growth. All you have to do is walk in the door and you will notice the difference a building like ours has to offer. Our new Children's area is so light and bright, and full of toys! It has a patio door leading out to a future Pocket Park filled with stimulating equipment. You will see people taking advantage of our quiet reading areas, our not-so-quiet reading areas, the fireplace, and our new computer stations. The open and modern new space has made such a difference in our capability to serve you! We can't wait for you to experience it firsthand.
Daniel, our Youth Services Director, engages with the kids after storytime.
Of course, the world we live in has recently changed, but the library is still here for you, even during our temporary closure. Please follow us on Facebook and Instagram to see how we can help you cope with quarantine and still enjoy an enriched in-home learning experience for you and your family! Check for posts and ideas often.
Mr. Dan offers a fantastic weekly Story Time for toddlers and in the near future, hopes to add one for babies! He is even doing some on-line story times via our Facebook page.
We offer adult programs, such as CrAfter Work! An adult arts and crafts group, meeting once a month to smile, craft, share, chill, and relate. You've heard the phrase "Makers Gotta Make"? Well, this is their forum. Join us on the second Monday of each month, (now via Zoom.com) for a fun and low-stress foray into what everyone is doing with their arts and crafts supplies. We would love to see you there!
Our next meeting is on May 11 at 7:00 pm. Go to zoom.com and choose "join a meeting," and enter the
Meeting ID: 748 5091 5765 and Password: SPL Crafts
Our new SMC Young Adult area boasts the brightest fireplace in town. Well, at least the wall is bright orange! The teens have their own cool furniture and book collection with one side of the fireplace for them and the other side in the Nemec Family quiet reading room!
Just inside the new Main Entrance on Garfield Street, facing the
SMC Young Adult side of the fireplace.
As always, you will find today's news, movies, magazines, DVD's for all ages, and your favorite authors. Find the new section and explore both Fiction and Non-Fiction. There is always something you haven't discovered yet!
We offer History and Genealogy services for our patrons in our new location. Somerset's rich history has been carefully curated for you by our current and former librarians! In our new designated space, extra care and attention are able to be given to our collection of photos, family records, and recorded histories. News articles have been sent out to be digitized and in the future, will be available online for free.
Are you an artist? Or interested in seeing artwork? Our new library building is going to have two gallery walls that will enable installations of various types of art. Look for it later this summer and get to work creating something interesting with your time at home! You never know when the call for art will be announced!
Please help us to grow and to serve by enriching, engaging and empowering our residents of all ages with a donation to our community cause. Stay safe and know that we all miss you very much and we wish you all good health and happiness.
