South Valley Services mission is to provide shelter, advocacy, case management, and prevention services to families and individuals impacted by domestic violence.

South Valley Services is a survivor-driven and trauma-informed agency that empowers individuals to recognize their self-worth and to develop the necessary skill to reach their greatest potential.

Domestic violence is more than just physical abuse. It encompasses sexual, emotional, economic, religious and psychological abuse.  Psychological abuse is the most prevalent and includes isolation, coercion, threats, intimidation, male privilege, denying, blaming and using children. Initially, identifying the signs of an abusive relationship can be difficult, especially if the abuser uses subtle tactics to gain power and control.

1 in 3 women will experience intimate partner violence in her lifetime.  When a survivor escapes the threatening situation they are now homeless.  Domestic Violence survivors are the largest subpopulation of Utah’s homeless and had a 46% increase over 2016 totals.

A recent study by the Utah Department of Health found that approximately 47% of all homicides in Utah in 2015 were domestic violence-related. On average, there is a domestic violence-related murder every 33 day, and approximately three domestic violence-related suicides every month. Domestic Violence-related homicides account for 70.3% of all female homicides and 19.0% of all male homicides.
