SoFAB Institute

SoFAB Institute operates the first stand-alone food museum in the United States, Southern Food and Beverage Museum in New Orleans. It has received significant national press, including a recent mention on CNN’s website as one of the top ten attractions in post-Katrina New Orleans (http://www.cnn.com/2015/05/06/travel/cnngo-new-orleans-katrina/). We do something nobody else does:  we educate the public about the connection between food and culture. Furthermore, we celebrate things and people that are often overlooked:  the old stoves, the kitchen utensils, the line cooks and waiters who created and served the food that nurtures us and helps form our identities. We attract visitors from all over the world who can absorb Southern food culture on site (literally through our restaurant, Purloo, as well as visually!) and experience Southern foodways through our exhibits and programs at the Museum and our other divisions. We offer a monthly children's program, Kids in the Kitchen, and a summer Kids Culinary Camp, focusing on teaching children healthy eating practices while learning new skills. We also operate a culinary and hospitality library, The John & Bonnie Boyd Hospitality & Culinary Library, in partnership with the New Orleans Public Library.
