Former marine and retired nurse Renee was devastated when she learned her dog Mishka had life-threatening bladder stones that would require surgery to remove. Without means to pay for the surgery, Renee sprung to action to save Mishka’s life. She sold personal belongings, reached out to friends and family, shared her story on social media, and even set up a GoFundMe campaign. But it wasn’t enough.

The Caldwell Keeping Families Together Fund at SPCA Tampa Bay Veterinary Center made Mishka’s surgery possible. This donor-supported fund supports families who are facing financial hardship and need help paying for their pet’s veterinary care.

Often, these families are facing a gut-wrenching decision: skip essential veterinary care and put the pet’s health at risk; surrender their beloved pet so it can receive the veterinary care it needs; or at times, end the pet’s suffering with humane euthanization. With your support, families don’t have to make this difficult decision. The Caldwell Keeping Families Together Fund helps pets receive the care they need and remain in homes with their families.

Right now for Give Day Tampa Bay, your donation will make twice the impact! A generous donor – inspired by stories like Renee’s – has stepped up to match all donations made to the fund, helping us save even more lives and keeping more families together.

“I’m very, very grateful for the fund and the kind people who donate to it,” said Renee. Today, Mishka is happy and healthy, and Renee still has her loving companion by her side.

Renee and Mishka are just one success story. Last year, $48,000 in grants from the Keeping Families Together Fund helped 166 struggling families pay for their pets’ veterinary care.
