Special Connections

Special Connections provides free Multi-Ability Bike Rides in local DFW parks to those with special needs or disabilities using an E-Trike Rickshaw bike.  Each bike allows all ages and abilities (i.e. Autism, Mobility Impairment, Down Syndrome, etc.) to ride on a back bench seat while a trained driver peddles the bike.  In addition, the bike allows up to 2 passengers to ride giving the option for a parent or sibling to join as well providing a shared experience.  A free sensory toy/gift is offered at the end of each ride when transitioning off the bike.

The inspiration for Special Connections is our 20 year old son, Caleb, that is non-verbal with Profound Autism.  As parents, we always struggled to find fun, safe, and accepting activities for Caleb to enjoy.  Like many special need families the lack of inclusive activities available in the community for our child often left us feeling isolated and alone.  The goal of Special Connections is to break through those barriers by allowing all abilities to experience outdoor recreation through riding a bike with the wind at their back.  Since starting in October of 2024 we have already provided over 100+ families with rides and with your generous donations hope to increase the number of families we can serve in the community through the purchase of additional bikes and equipment.
