Special Needs Resource Foundation of San Diego

San Diego Family Magazine launched the Special Needs Resource Foundation of San Diego eight years ago to support local families and individuals with disabilities.

Our nonprofit's mission is to connect families (and individuals) with disabilities to resources, services and opportunities while encouraging an inclusive community and enhancing quality of life.

Our programs:

We publish Flourishing Families, the award-winning special needs resource guide for families and agencies in San Diego and Imperial Counties. It contains a comprehensive list of behavior, education and health resources, informative articles and much more. This year's guide offers more than 1,300 resources.

Each year we host the All-Inclusive Day of Play & Resource Fair. At these all-inclusive events we combine efforts with many local organizations to help families find needed resources and create wonderful family memories through play. We are very proud to be part of such a committed community. Children of all abilities enjoy themed activity stations including a Wheelchair Awareness Course, Under-the-Sea Sensory Tent and more! All activities and resources are free and open to the public. 

Purchasing products and services from business owners with disabilities allows them to achieve independence and self-reliance. It also encourages inclusion and the idea that all people have agency in our community. In order to help, we created a ShopAble program which includes a list of businesses owned by people with disabilities or chronic medical conditions. 

We also host two annual All-Inclusive READ 3×3 Literacy Events – one in San Diego and one in Imperial County. We bring in three authors to entertain children of all abilities with a book reading and related activity or craft. These events are free and open to the public. Parents can pick up resources from local businesses.

Join us for a themed movie night fundraiser! Our events offer much more than just seeing the movie on OPENING NIGHT weekend.  As our guest, you’ll receive a souvenir event badge, take photos with themed characters, create unique crafts, enjoy movie snacks and win themed prizes. All this fun happens even before the much-anticipated block buster movie!
