Spirit Mountain Retreat, previously known as Colombiere Center for Transforming Consciousness, has been active in Idyllwild since 1985. Then in 1995, Colombiere Retreat Center, Inc. became an official State of California nonprofit corporation, until the name change in 2005 to Spirit Mountain Retreat (SMR).

Since 2005, SMR has provided regular programming, informative, creative and spiritual workshops, offering unique opportunities for personal growth and for expanding understanding of both personal, environmental, and societal issues. Our beautiful contemplative garden provides a site for quiet meditation, contact with nature and space for outside workshops and gatherings. We also offer meditation, creative art, and writing programs in Palm Desert at various venues.

We can also accommodate up to 8 individuals overnight for private retreats or as part of a multi-day workshop program.

Our key programs and activities are: quarterly women's writing 3-day workshops, a resiliency retreat series for women veterans with PTSD, a men's 2-day retreat, monthly Days of Mindfulness (meditation instruction and practice), quarterly seasonal celebrations, art and spirituality workshops, book discussion group, dream interpretation workshops, spirituality/bioethics discussions, cross-cultural spirituality workshops, etc. We also offer spiritual direction for those who are interested.

We serve the mountain and desert communities with all of our activities. We also have people come from all over the country to Idyllwild. In the last few years, we have welcomed participants/guests from Massachusetts, New York, Kentucky, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and from all over California.
