$9,775 raised by 84 donors

At SCPAC, we connect and reconnect people with nature by fostering an understanding and appreciation of our natural and cultural heritage.

ALL donations go to Spring Creek Prairie Audubon Center for our youth and adult education programs and habitat management - to create meaningful, personal experiences in our natural world.

Numerous studies show how critical time spent in nature is to the healthy development of our children and their relationship to the natural world.

Children learn to question and understand their surroundings through inquiry and exploration. Furthermore, research shows engaging students through hands-on learning opportunities and inquiry-based activities gives youth an experience that leads to increased success not only in academics but also in school attendance and positive behaviors.

These authentic experiences have the ability to build students’ confidence for success in their future academic career, as active members or our community, and as stewards of our precious natural and cultural resources.

Opportunities for many children to spend meaningful time in nature are extremely rare. We address this need by partnering with many schools, community learning centers, and higher education organizations to provide opportunities for children and adults in our community.

Facilitated programs integrate art, literature, science and history. The use of multiple subject areas provides students with a creative approach to learning.

Visiting youth personally connect with nature through innovative programs that augment classroom studies with experiences that last a lifetime. Students are immersed in nature as they explore the prairie, wetlands, and woodlands, collecting data and making their own discoveries about the plants and animals that live here.

These experiences take place through programs that meet specific curriculum guidelines and help develop creativity and critical thinking skills, important components of early educational experiences.

Program themes center on science, history, literature and art. All of the programs are hands-on, open-ended, multi-disciplinary and inquiry-based nature explorations. All of the programs foster respect and care for the natural environment.

We encourage meaningful outdoor experiences as the basis for a lifetime of enjoyment.

We are working to preserve the native tallgrass prairie, and the birds and wildlife that rely on it, for future generations. By working closely with others, we are preserving our natural heritage so our children and grandchildren can experience the prairie firsthand, rather than through a book or computer screen.

We offer public and school education programs to help create a next generation that cares about the safeguarding native, natural places. Educational activities include:

  • School field trips, Pre-K throughCollege level
  • Summer field trips fordaycares and preschool
  • Summer Camp for Lincoln Community Learning Centers
  • Family and public programs (such as bird walks, Winter Walkabout, Snug as A Bug, Take Flight, et. al)
  • Interactive exhibits on Nebraska’s tallgrass prairie
  • New programs for blind and visually-impaired visitors
  • New programs for senior citizens
  • U.S. National Science Foundation grant partnership with UNL Teachers College and Crete Public Schools to support math and science advancement for high school students
