You Can And Do Make The Difference!
The Springfield Boys & Girls Club, Inc. works to help youth of all backgrounds, with special concern for those from disadvantaged circumstances, acquire the qualities needed to become responsible citizens and leaders. The Club accomplishes this by offering children and teenagers developmental programs to enhance their social, emotional, physical, vocational and educational well-being.
Celebrating its 125th year, the Club is a full-time, year-round youth service agency with a special emphasis on inner-city kids, ages 5 – 18. Of the youth served, 55% are Hispanic, 31% are African American, 6% are Caucasian, and 8% are Other. Our youth come from every geographical region within the City of Springfield, including Liberty Heights, Memorial Square, South End, Old Hill/Six Corners, North End, Indian Orchard, and Forest Park. Over 87% live at or below the state poverty level, 90% are classified academically as high-needs, 44% live with a single female parent with only 7% living with a single male parent.
For many of these children, the Springfield Boys & Girls Club is their second home. The Club provides a tangible measure of hope and offers young people what they need and want most – adults who respect and listen to them, a safe environment where they can have fun and be themselves, and interesting, constructive activities that channel youthful energy into challenging pursuits.
Under the guidance and supervision of Youth Development Professionals, youth that come to the Club can participate in a variety of programs including Character & Leadership, Education & Career, Health & Life Skills, Arts, Music, Sports, Fitness & Recreation. A youth development strategy underlies all Club programs and fosters a sense of belonging, competence, usefulness and influence that builds self-confidence and self-esteem.
The Club is affordable, maintaining $10-$15 annual membership fees. No youth are turned away for an inability to pay the annual fee.
The Springfield Boys & Girls Club is proud of the fact that during these challenging economic times, the Club remains open during the academic year, Tuesday – Friday from 3 p.m. - 9:30 p.m., Saturdays from 9:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. and during the summer, Monday – Friday from 7:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. These hours of operation are critical to provide our youth with access to enrichment programs.
We Can’t Do It Alone!
Your support of the Springfield Boys & Girls Club will allow us to keep our doors open and the lights on during the critical after school and summer hours! These are the hours where inner city youth, without direction, can be tempted to engage in dangerous and negative street activity.
Our inner city youth need a positive, safe place to go where they can make friends, learn and grow.
Please join us in supporting the youth of our future!
Thank You! You Can And Do Make A Difference!
