Sparc is a 501(c) (3) not-for-profit organization located in Springfield, Illinois. Founded in 1951 by a group of parents of children with developmental and intellectual disabilities – Sparc is the largest and oldest local nonprofit organization in the region working with individuals that have intellectual and developmental disabilities by assisting them in achieving their highest level of independence.

Sparc accomplishes its mission effectively through programs in concurrence to the unique potential of each individual we work with. These programs are designed to build self-confidence and independence so that individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities become contributing members of the community.

The support services Sparc provides through our programs benefit approximately 500 individuals currently. We operate 14 Community Integrated Living Arrangements (CILAs), or group homes that provide 24-hour residential support. Sparc provides workforce development and life skills development training, supported and competitive employment, and job placement support to the individuals supported. Sparc also offers a camp for youth with developmental and intellectual disabilities, which provides a camp-like atmosphere for them to participate in while preventing "summer learning loss" over the break from their scheduled school year learning environment.
