• Every 9 seconds in the US, a woman is assaulted or beaten.

• 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men have been victims of [some form of] physical violence by an intimate partner within their lifetime.

• 1 in 5 women and 1 in 7 men have been victims of severe physical violence by an intimate partner in their lifetime.

• On a typical day, there are more than 20,000 phone calls placed to domestic violence hotlines nationwide.

Mission Statement:

Our Mission is to educate our communities, be advocates for social change and empower victims of domestic violence. Each day our goal is to provide advocacy, safe shelter and education with compassion and hope for the future.

SpringHaven is the only domestic violence shelter in our 8 county service area which includes Breckinridge, Hardin, Grayson, Marion, Meade, Nelson, LaRue and Washington. There is no public transportation in this area, nor is there a homeless shelter. The services provided by SpringHaven are essential to this community. Advocates are state certified through the Kentucky Coalition Against Domestic Violence and all services are free of charge.

Advocacy and services are geared toward equipping the survivor with the resources needed to re-enter the community as a contributing member. These services include meeting the clients’ basic welfare needs, providing counseling, groups, acquiring background checks/social security cards/birth certificates, providing financial stability classes, assisting with resumes and job applications, referring clients to community programs designed to target specific issues survivors may have, assisting with transportation, housing and more. This community needs these services.  

During our last fiscal year, we provided advocacy/services to 181 men, women and children in shelter and 883 men, women and children who did not come to shelter. Advocates provided over 16,000 services to these victims, free of charge. Domestic violence does not discriminate. It does not only hit a specific demographic. It is an epidemic that affects every age and every economic class.
