Spy Hop’s programs in film, music, audio production and design help youth find themselves, express themselves and connect to their communities. Every hour that students spend in class brings them one step closer to finding their path, finding their place in the world — And every hour depends on your support.

NEW TO SPY HOP?

We believe the next generation has a lot to say. And we believe that when armed with awareness and knowledge, youth can speak more articulately and with greater impact.

Spy Hop’s mission is to mentor young people in the digital media arts to help them find their voice, tell their stories, and be empowered to affect positive change in their lives, their communities, and the world.

Since 1999, Spy Hop has mentored Utah’s young people in the digital media arts as a vehicle for free expression, self-discovery, critical thinking and skilled participation. Our afterschool and community programs in film, audio, design and music production are a model for youth development programs across the nation and Spy Hop is recognized by the White House as a leading nonprofit arts and humanities organization. 

WE BELIEVE IN...

TRANSFORMATION: We are changing the way young people see themselves. We believe in them, we instill confidence and ownership in their ideas and work. When they talk, we listen; and we encourage them to talk and listen to each other, which creates a connectivity and a community that wasn’t there before.

DIVERSITY: We respect that everyone has their own beliefs and culture and through that respect, give students the confidence to accept others. We bring young people together that don’t otherwise have the opportunity to connect, and we value the forward movement that happens when there is diversity in thought, culture and voice.

EMPOWERMENT: When our students gain digital media knowledge, they are empowered to move from being a passive consumer of media to an active and engaged producer. And, when their individual and collective ideas are encouraged and embraced, they are empowered to become active and engaged citizens.

INNOVATION: We embrace the progressive nature of innovation by continuously adapting to changing cultural and technological landscapes. By evolving our facilities, our programming and our administration, we create the conditions for ongoing intellectual curiosity and support the creative use of emerging media and technologies.

COMMUNITY: We believe that commitment to our own small community has the ability to create dramatic social change in the larger communities all around us. Spy Hop nurtures a safe, welcoming space in which creativity, innovation, and risk-taking can take place.
