Help Squallis establish its new home base!

We have the keys and we have already started moving into our new headquarters right next door to our friends and collaborators The Portland Museum! This brick 4plex, dubbed The Lighthouse building, will serve as our base of operations, with our office and studio space occupying one of the second floor units, and shared space for events and visiting artists down below. We can’t wait to share this sweetened condensed version of Squallis with everyone. Help us set up shop as we prepare for the 24-25 touring season. Your support will allow Squallis to thrive in a vibrant new location (after over a year in storage) as we continue to offer our beloved touring shows and workshops, all the while planning for a rich new future alongside the Portland Museum and AHOY. Give what you can today, and stop by the Portland Art & Heritage fair for an exclusive tour of our new space!

Squallis Puppeteers has been connecting with local Kentuckiana families for over 27 years! With these connections, we've been able to teach folks how to build self awareness through art, how to get along well with others and how art can empower young people to
find their own voice in order to make the future better and brighter.
Help us reach more folks by supporting Squallis today!

Who We Are

Squallis Puppeteers is a family run non-profit organization that has been serving children and families with fun and innovative programming for decades. Our mission is to use the art of puppetry to free imaginations, to create fantastic characters, and to tell the stories that are important to our community. The programs that we offer include touring workshops and puppet shows that help to connect young people to their own creativity as well as making connections to meaningful content that helps to build mental health skills.

Our workshops and residencies teach valuable lessons and provide access to materials that inspire laughter and ingenuity. The participants make finger puppets or sock puppets and then those puppets are used to tell their stories. Our residencies invite young people to record these stories into short funny videos that capture moments of playfulness along with the wisdom of children.

The puppet shows that are currently touring out to public schools and community centers include one-person shows for small intimate audiences and two-person shows for bigger assembly sized audiences. “Brain Party” is our newest show that features a dancing brain puppet, a toy theater suitcase show, original music and interactive games, all to teach young viewers about their brains so that they can learn to control their emotions.  Other shows include “Tricky Fox”, “Rage-O-Saurus Rex”, “Mouse Tales” and “Ferdinand and Friends”, a partnership program with Louisville Academy of Music.

In addition to these important touring programs, Squallis plans to collaborate with the Portland Museum to develop programming for AHOY Children's Museum and the Lighthouse Education Center. This will allow Squallis to invite fans to our headquarters to experience our art form in a new way as well as learning about the Portland Museum. Partnerships have always been a focus for our organization and we are excited to discover all the possibilities that we can offer the Portland neighborhood and the Louisville community by working alongside the Portland Museum. We believe puppets can help people of all ages to communicate, connect and stay creative, be part of the magic by supporting Squallis today.
