St. Philip's has been operating for six one-half years. It began in response to the critical need for safe, quality, early childhood education in Anacostia.

Why is St. Philip's so important? Studies show if you compare children who have been raised in economically deprived circumstances when they enter kindergarten, the children that have been enrolled in an early childhood education programs have an 18-month developmental edge over the children that have not. And this developmental gap does not decrease or even remain static over time. The gap increases with each year. All of our children come from families with very low income. Several of our families reside in shelters.

In Anacostia, more than 90% of school-age children read below grade level and fewer than 40% of children from 0-4 are enrolled in early childhood education programs.

We are determined that all children get the opportunity they deserve.

Our doors open at 7:00 a.m. and close at 6:00 p.m. We serve two hot meals and snacks every day. Each day our children participate in activities involving art, story-time, music, math, outdoor play and field trips. 95% of our children qualify for tuition subsidization.

Our operating costs exceed our tuition reimbursement by nearly $80,000 every year. We depend on your generosity to keep our doors open.
