Father Joe's Villages

A nonprofit organization

Established in 1950 to serve San Diegans experiencing homelessness and poverty, Father Joe’s Villages has grown to include a comprehensive campus and scattered-site programs that house over 2,000 people nightly.

At least 7,600 people are experiencing homelessness every night in San Diego. Of those, nearly 4,000 men, women and children lie down to sleep each night on sidewalks, in doorways, canyons and alleys. They live without regular access to food or water, and no place to use the bathroom, wash their hands, bathe or do laundry. People who are homeless are at greater risk of serious illness, mental health issues, substance abuse and violence. To combat this unfortunate reality Father Joe's Villages is dedicated to restoring the dignity by combining evidence-based housing models with the services and support people need to get off the streets for good.

In the last 10 years, Father Joe’s Villages has assisted more than 58,000 people experiencing homelessness, including people of color, women, seniors, folks with disabilities and people who identify as LGBTQ+. Of those, we served nearly 3,200 families and close to 7,000 children. In 2021, we helped nearly 12,000 San Diegans struggling with homelessness, with 10% being 65 years or older

Father Joe’s Villages’ time-tested model of care respects human dignity, restores hope, and provides essential life skills allowing neighbors to lead productive lives off the streets. Our programs help to meet our neighbors' basic needs, while also delivering long-term solutions that help them achieve their goals of housing and employment. Together, our comprehensive services, shelters, and housing programs give neighbors the tools they need to overcome any obstacle on their journey out of homelessness.
