Doors To Recovery is changing the landscape for long-term recovery in Northern Nevada. We help everyone regardless of their ability to pay, because we believe it is important to transform lives now to change the lives of generations to come.
Our goal is to raise $50,000.00 to transform the lives of young people in our community. The money we raise during this campaign will help us purchase and renovate a new treatment house. It will be managed under the direction of The Ridge House, a comprehensive residential and outpatient treatment program that provides young adults the tools to overcome substance abuse through treatment devoid criminalization. Young adults recovering from addiction stay in residence at our treatment houses until they learn the skills they need to achieve sobriety and learn independent living skills. (The Josh Montoya House opened in October of last year and the Jane Aubrey House is scheduled to open this Spring.)
We are breaking the pattern of returning to drugs, alcohol and crime by helping these young individuals help themselves. Ridge House Executive Director Steve Burt follows his promise that "we will love them until they love themselves."
Research shows that adolescent substance use is associated with adverse outcomes in children and families, leading to long-term effects such as addiction, incarceration and unemployment. Furthermore, teen alcohol and other drug use is associated with accidents, unintentional overdoses, violence, sexual trauma and legal issues (Hazelden 2014). Substance abuse prevention programming typically consists of activities that seek to reduce specific problems, protect the current state of wellbeing and promote desired outcomes of behavior.
Some alarming statistics:
- Each day 300 die in America alone, the yearly death rate is now higher than car accidents.
- Currently Nevada ranks third in the nation for overdose deaths.
- Between 2000 and 2014 over 1/2 million people have died from drug overdoses.
- There are currently 22 million Americans who suffer from addiction that need help.
- One in ten people born will suffer from addiction.
- One in five young adults who try prescription opioid pills will become addicted.
- We lost 55,000 in Vietnam over 12 years; we lose 47,000 per year in overdoses. (CDC)
Please help the friends and family in your life that need the opportunity to recover from their addiction. We can do this together, because most of us will know someone who struggles with addiction and we care enough about them to be a part of providing the necessary services our community desperately needs.
