Starfish Project began in 2006 as a small group of people with a heart to help and reach out to the exploited women and children they observed around their city in Asia. They began going into the streets to visit the women in the brothels.  Week after week they spent time chatting with them, taking them out for coffee, throwing birthday parties, and even giving English lessons. Slowly, the women’s doubts and mistrust diminished and friendship began to grow in its place.

Over time, some of the women and girls came to trust the group enough to leave their old life and come into the Starfish Shelter. The Project developed a socially responsible jewelry business in order to provide women with alternative employment and a range of holistic care opportunities.

In 2014, the Project has grown to support approximately 50 women since the start of the organization in 3 different cities, primarily through the jewelry company where women have taken on new levels of responsibility and leadership, and are able to provide for their families through meaningful employment. Starfish Project also provides opportunities for women to heal and grow through counseling, vocational training, language acquisition, family education benefits and health care access, as well as providing housing in our women's shelter. The Project is committed to restoring hope for each woman that enters its doors.
