Stay in School

Show up. Every day. It matters.  

The mission of the United Way Stay in School initiative is to increase the number of high school graduates and reduce the number of dropouts and students who are chronically absent in the Springfield Public School system.

With the right connection between school, family, and student - along with the tools and resources to help them succeed- these students can overcome the challenging obstacles that might prevent them from graduating high school.  

Ramona got the support she needed during a tough time in her life: 

"I got myself into a tough situation when I got pregnant at a young age. What was even tougher, without notice my daughter died from SIDS at 3 months old. I didn't know what to do or how I would keep moving on, but my school Guidance Counselors helped keep me motivated on getting my education. They inspired me and wrote me almost every day to see when I was ready to get back in school and continue towards my degree. After a year-long struggle, I am back in school and on the Dean's List. No matter what struggles we face, we can still come out on top."
