STEP UP IN SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY 

Step Up on Second, Inc. (Step Up) is a 501c3 nonprofit organization whose mission is to deliver compassionate support to people experiencing serious mental illness to help them recover, stabilize, and integrate into the community. Through dynamic partnerships, Step Up provides positive social and learning environments, vocational training, permanent supportive housing opportunities, and recovery services to empower individuals to cultivate lives of hope and dignity. Step Up exercises innovative leadership and advocacy to increase public understanding, support and acceptance of all people living with mental illness.  Step Up envisions that all individuals, families, and communities affected by mental illness will have the opportunity to experience recovery and a sense of belonging, and that permanent supportive housing will be available to everyone who needs it. 

Since 1984, Step Up has provided services in Santa Monica and the greater Los Angeles area, but because of Step Up’s reputation for ending homelessness not just managing it, Step Up has expanded to Riverside and Orange Counties, and this past year, was awarded a contract to help San Bernardino County end homelessness.   

In less than a year, the Step Up in San Bernardino Team have helped 123 of SBC’s most vulnerable neighbors move off the streets and into a home, surrounding them with the enriched supportive services they need to help them remain stably housed and work on their recovery and wellness. Step Up’s goal for the coming year is to house and support an additional 100 persons living on the streets of San Bernardino County.  Step Up is honored and humbled to be in our nation’s largest geographical county helping to pull up those that need a hand most of all.

Step Up is recognized as a national leader in the mental health and permanent supportive housing communities in implementing the Housing First and Harm Reduction models. For over 30 years, Step Up has provided services including: life skills development, mental health, and physical health services, member-driven support programs run by staff and supported by peer advocates to assist individuals in their recovery process, such as identifying personal goals and building strategies to achieve them.                                                                

Step Up is seeking your financial support today for Step Up San Bernardino to help end homelessness.  In San Bernardino County Step Up is has engaged, enrolled and moved 123 chronically homeless persons off the streets.  Step Up has been awarded HUD Continuum of Care funds and Department of Behavioral Health (DBH) funds in San Bernardino for this work. Step Up will use all monies awarded from BIG GIVE SAN BERNARDINO towards outreach and services for it’s most vulnerable community members in San Bernardino County through its program and services known as Step Up San Bernardino.
