Why run or walk for SGMWI?

Because according to the 2013 North Dakota Youth Risk Behavior Survey:

25.4 %  of North Dakota 9th-12th Graders  have "been so sad or hopeless every day for two or more weeks in a row that they stopped doing some usual activities" in the last 12 months. 
That's 1 out of 4 students. 

16.1% -  students seriously considered suicide in the previous 12 months.  This means that 48 kids out of a single school class of 300 thought of taking their life. 

These are not numbers - they are children.   Your nieces and nephews, your daughter's boyfriend, your neighbors' kids or even your child. And they need our help.  Schools need our help- they are not equipped with the resources to support students who are struggling. 

What is SGWMI doing to help?

The SGMWI is working with Fargo, West Fargo and Moorhead Public Schools disctricts to provide funding for districts to hire Student Support Strategists (SSS), who provide early intervention mental health support for students who are struggling with mental health concerns- this is not only is necessary to prevent crisis but to give students the opportunity to Imagine Thriving.

With funding from SGMWI the Fargo Public Schools have hired the first SSS.  Please help us help us bring this life changing resource into West Fargo and Moorhead Public Schools. 

Additionally, SGMWI has launched www.ImagineThriving.org to provide free mental health education and resources for schools, students and parents -knowledge is empowering.

In February 2013, Stephanie Goetz started the Stephanie Goetz Mental Wellness Initiative to honor her brother, Cameron, who took his life on August 11, 2002 - the day before his 20th birthday. Because of the perception of mental illness, Cam kept his battle from his friends. Through the help, power and kind heartedness of you and your donations, our goal is fund the needed mental health resources in Fargo, Moorhead and West Fargo Schools and to erase the stigma of mental illness and empower people to feel safe in telling their loved ones that they are hurting.
