Stephen Jonah King and his wife Sara Ann Murray settled Berry Mountain in Blount County, just north of Oneonta around 1883.  They sold their land in North Carolina to the Vanderbilts (part of the Biltmore Estate) and used covered wagons and oxen to make the 21 day journey to Alabama.    Jonah became a well know apple grower and was known as a hard working progessive farmer for his time.   In 1919 he donated land for a school and it was built in 1920.  Jonah had 15 children.  The Kings have always had a close sense of community and still meet every year on the 4th Sunday in July at that same school house to celebrate their heritage.
