As a homeless shelter serving families with children in Montgomery County, every donation helps families like Anna's.

Anna, a single mother of 3 teenage children, was a survivor of domestic violence. Escaping her abuser, when Anna arrived at Stepping Stones her only income was the small child support payment she received, which was not enough to afford safe housing for her family. Our case managers connected her to the Abused Persons Program for counseling, and referred her for a rental subsidy. She worked with our employment counselors to write a resume and conduct job searches. Our client assistance funds enabled her to get new glasses for her daughter, and to enroll her children in an after-school recreation center program so she could know they were safe while she worked on finding a job. She quickly found an apartment once the rental subsidy was approved. The day she signed her lease, she came back to us with great pride to tell us she had gotten a job!

Each of our families arrives desperate and scared. Stepping Stones' support is integral to helping families succeed despite their very difficult circumstances.
