When Stir Friday Night was formed in Chicago in 1995, there weren’t many roles for Asian-Americans.  Some of the roles that were available tended to lean a bit on the stereotypical side.  So, a group of Asian-American actors got together, and decided to start making their own roles.  We’ve been writing, performing, and producing those roles ever since.  Some of our alumni include Danny Pudi from NBC’s Community, and Steven Yeun from AMC’s The Walking Dead.

Each year, we create and perform an original sketch comedy revue.  We perform throughout Chicago, in festivals, and we also do touring shows.

Our mission is to challenge the perception of Asian Americans, and examine the Asian-American and minority experience.  We also challenge perceptions through representation.  Our ensemble includes Chinese, Japanese, Filipino, Indian, and Korean writers and performers.  However we seek to reach all audiences, and through comedy, dissect social and political issues in ways that would not otherwise be possible.  We also provide opportunities and training for minority artists.

Stir Friday Night is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, so all donations are tax-deductible, and you'll be emailed a receipt.

We also offer touring shows and workshops for schools, companies, and organizations.  For more info, email info@stirfridaynight.org.
