Welcome to St. James’ Episcopal Church, the only Episcopal church in Oldham County. We are listed on the National Registry of Historic Places (NRHP). St. James’ has been Loving People, Serving People, with no exclusions, since 1858 when 3 families gathered to petition to have St. James’ Episcopal Church admitted to the Diocese of Kentucky.

St. James’ is listed on the NRHP due to cultural significance that you just don’t see anymore, including a Gothic Revival style of architecture in the main church that was built in 1869, an original bell that dates to the early 1900’s (many churches have started moving towards electronic bells), a Pilcher pipe organ from 1924, plus much more historical significance. St. James’ does more than operate as a house of worship, in fact, St. James’ is integral to the community at large!

Over the years, St. James’ has been able to give back to the community in a variety of different ways, including:

  • Operating our on-site and licensed St. James’ Preschool
  • Hosting a monthly free Pet Food Pantry for the community
  • Hosting a free Trunk or Treat event for the community
  • Offering Lenten spaghetti dinners (no obligation free will offering)
  • Crafting Healing Blankets to give to those struggling with illness or grief and Joy Blankets for those celebrating new birth
  • Crafting and distributing Pet Prayer blankets.
  • Collecting and distributing food to the Oldham County Red Cross Food Bank
  • Hosting blood drives for the Red Cross
  • Sponsoring Laundry Love which seeks to help folks launder their clothing when they may be unable to do so
  • Providing pastoral care through things like pre-marital counseling, visiting the sick and homebound, aiding those in need with Rector’s and Deacon’s discretionary funds, etc.
  • Offering a music program allowing those with musical talents to show case those talents in ways they would not be otherwise able to do so

St. James’ shares space with community groups and resources such as:

  • AA/Al-ANON
  • Pewee Valley Farmers Market
  • Magnetic North
  • Mindful Solutions Counseling Services

ensuring availability of affordable spaces to provide much needed services.

These endeavors would not be possible without the support of our local community.  Money raised from Give for Good Louisville will benefit the ongoing work of St. James’ which includes but is not limited to providing for continuing to offer a ministry for all of God’s children (including animals!), providing pastoral support to the community, continuing to be able to maintain the building and grounds to host community functions, operational support and much, much more!  Join us in making a difference in our community!
